Course Agenda

1. Theory: Introducing Critical Thinking, Its Benefits, and a New Model to the concept

Ben will introduce the session by reminding the team that everyone in business is in the business of solving problems. He will then move on to define critical thinking and provide specific examples of why it matters.

He will then introduce a helpful model team members can use when attempting to think critically about a problem. So as not to overwhelm the team, to begin, he will only discuss the first three of the model’s six steps.

Duration: 8 minutes

2. Activity: Practicing with the New Critical Thinking Model (Steps 1 - 3)

In the first discussion, the team will get a chance to put the first three steps of this new critical thinking model to work by applying it to real work situations.

3. Theory: A New Model for Critical Thinking (Part 2)

After the first discussion, Ben will briefly return to explain the next two steps of the new critical thinking model.

Duration: 2 minutes

6. Activity: Establishing Well-Thought Solutions (Step 6)

The previous two discussions have seen the team apply a valuable critical thinking model to several workplace problems. Now the team will get a chance to come up with solutions based on that process.

Course Trailer

My team would often talk about applying critical thinking to various problems, but I’m unsure anyone actually knew a process for doing. That’s a big reason why this team course was so beneficial. Because we used our time together to apply critical thinking to existing problems, we walked out of the session with real, actionable ideas."

Your questions, answered

General

What are critical thinking skills?

Critical thinking involves a rigorous and deliberate process of using judgment to assess and interpret information. This process includes gathering and scrutinizing data through observation, experiences, reflection, thought, or interaction and then applying, analyzing, combining, or evaluating it. The aim is to inform one's beliefs and actions effectively.

Why critical thinking is so important?

Critical thinking is fundamentally important because it empowers individuals with the ability to process information in a clear, logical, and reflective manner, leading to better decision-making and problem-solving. It enables people to evaluate arguments, identify biases, and approach complex issues systematically. In today’s information-rich but often misleading world.

How can we improve critical thinking?

First, identify the problem. Then, research and evaluate the data's relevance. Finally, ask critical questions, choose the best solution, present it, and review your decision's effectiveness.

What are 5 steps to improve your critical thinking?

  • Reflect on your thoughts and values.
  • Analyze how you think.
  • Learn to predict outcomes.
  • Listen actively.
  • Ask insightful questions.
  • Evaluate evidence critically.

How do critical thinking skills enhance our lives?

Possessing strong critical thinking skills fosters self-reliance and assurance. It equips you with the ability to effectively accumulate knowledge, swiftly digest information, and intelligently evaluate data. With an arsenal of critical thinking abilities at your disposal, you'll find yourself better prepared to navigate a wide array of challenges, whether they arise in your personal life or professional environment.
